Steve LeClairSteve LeClair joined our firm in 2021 as part of the merger with Gibson LeClair, LLC. His background in nonprofit engagements and his dedication to the field make him a valuable member or our Augusta team.

Before One River

Steve received his Bachelor’s degree from Husson University and his prior employment history includes working for the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Audit as an audit supervisor. Additionally, he held a financial management position with a community action agency, as well as a position as a controller with a private, for-profit corporation

At One River

As the firm’s Audit Director, Steve directs the firm’s quality control and is responsible for the firm’s nonprofit engagements. He has worked continuously on nonprofit, social service, and community action agency financial, federal, and state compliance audits. He has extensive experience in the preparation and review of annual MaineCare and PNMI Cost Reports. He assists clients on appeals and resolutions with the State DHHS Division of Audit.

Steve currently serves as a Fiscal Consultant for the Office of Head Start National Center on Program Management and Fiscal Operations, providing program and fiscal expertise to grantees throughout the country that administer the federal Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

Steve is currently a member of:

  • The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
  • The Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants

Steve has previously served as Chair of the State of Maine MAAP Appeals Board and as a committee member on the State of Maine MAAP Advisory Board. He served as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Home Care for Maine and has served as a past Chair and Treasurer of that organization.

Why do you do what you do? 

I love working with nonprofit organizations to help them become fiscally better at what they do and see them successfully meet their missions.

What do you do on April 16th?  

Usually man the near-empty office and enjoy the peace and quiet.

What is your favorite movie?

I have two – Forrest Gump and The Godfather

What is something people might not know about you?  

I’m a big Nascar fan.

What is one of your biggest accomplishments?  

Helping to start and build a successful small business in the Capitol area.

Best advice you ever received?

Life constantly teaches you lessons, never stop learning.
